The Maine Department of Education has awarded the Boothbay Sea and Science Center $85,236.00 for its Summer 2023 Experiential Marine Science/Environmental Education on Linekin Bay program. For 3 weeks during the month of July this program will introduce 36 middle and high school students living in inland Maine communities to hands-on experiential sea and science activities.
Participating in BSSC’s Stay’s’l program these students will be introduced to conversations with shipbuilders, sailmakers, artists, musicians, techniques for measuring and recording sea levels, studying the effects of rising tides on coastal communities and tracking marine debris. In addition students will sail, row, learn the basic rules of seamanship and water safety, and work as a team to solve problems.
Students will spend their nights at Lincoln Academy in Newcastle.
We are honored to receive this award that supports the Governor’s initiative and our goal to provide equal and affordable access to sea and marine science experiential activities regardless of income and proximity to the ocean.
