Schooner Tyrone returns to host BSSC students in upcoming season

Last year’s Schooner Tyrone crew poses on the BSSC floats. From left to right: Hadley Birmingham, Pauline Nadeau-Miller, Elise Wilson, Sheyenne Upham, Jackie Branch, Ben Hodgdon (rear).

We‘re thrilled to share that six BSSC students in the Stay’s’l Program will be aboard the Schooner Tyrone for three nights and four days for real-time, at-sea marine science and sail training during Windjammer Days this summer. Captain Rayford Chew and first mate Carolyn Corbin will welcome the students aboard on Monday, June 23. This will be a perfect fit for our Boats and Scopes topic of the week! The cost is $640 per student and the program is paid for by sponsorships. If you would like to sponsor a student for this experience, please email Pauline Dion at pauline.dion@boothbayseaandsciencecenter.org to find out how.
Seeking grant to expand program
In an effort to expand this program to bring youth from rural and marginalized communities to the sea, we are seeking funding that will support a two-week pilot program for as many as 12 students aboard the Schooner Tyrone.
