Summer 2025 program filled with exciting topics

BSSC students pose on the last day of the 2024 season.

We have packed our nine-week summer program with hands-on experiential learning topics that are exciting, fun, and speak to: BSSC a la carte (Ship to Shore: Discovering BSSC); the intersection of boats and marine science (Scopes and Boats); weather forecasting (Day to Day); the arctic and antarctic regions (Top to Bottom); marine debris (Singled Out); seaweed farming (The “Maine” Ingredient); marine technology (Lost and Found); fishing industry (Hook, Line, and Seeker); Maine Maritime History (Inside The Toolbox).
This summer we will engage more then 180 youth ages 5 – 17, a mix of 21 instructors and apprentices and 60+ parent and community volunteers ages 13+ that hail from Maine and beyond the US.

Additional programs under consideration
In addition to our summer topics we are considering additional programming to serve a wider audience. We are planning a “Learn with Me” program that will host BSSC parents/guardians in an afternoon of hands-on experiential sea and science activities with their child(ren). And in partnership with the Moosehead Marine Museum, under consideration is a 2026 school-year program titled “Exploring The River” for 30+ students ages 10 – 18 in schools along the Kennebec River.
