Robert (RC) Chance

RC is a native of Baltimore, Maryland. He began sailing while he was a student at St. Mary’s College. Having fallen in love with the sport he spent each Summer teaching sailing on the Chesapeake Bay for local NPO’s that served at risk youth from Baltimore City. After college RC went into the private sector in finance. When he moved to Maine, with his wife and dogs, in 2022, he decided to reconnect with his passion for instructing kids in sailing by serving as a sailing instructor for BSSC. “I didn’t grow up sailing, and I know that if I had been introduced to it earlier it would have been a very meaningful experience for me. That’s why I am so passionate about connecting kids to sailing.” He is looking forward to his third Summer at BSSC!
Chelsea O’Connell-Barlow

Chelsea is a teacher and scientist. She has been teaching science for 16 years in Portland, ME, and Atlanta, GA. Chelsea loves opening students’ minds to the natural world and building their passion for all there is to experience in the outdoors. In past summers Chelsea has worked with The Nature Conservancy facilitating environmental experiential learning for teens in multiple states. She is very excited about her first summer with BSSC. Chelsea is an avid reader, lover of low-stakes high laughter games, and the #1 fan of Fergus, her rescued dog.

Hi, my name is Rayelle Brewer and I’m from Cheyenne, Wyoming. I will be entering my junior year at Maine Maritime in the fall where I study marine biology and small vessel operations, I am also a member of the swim team. I love school and learning new things about the marine ecosystem every day, and I can’t wait to help teach kids about our wonderful sea.

I grew up on Cape Cod, Massachusetts and spent the summers by the sea, which was what initially sparked my interest in marine life. I am going into my senior year at the University of Maine studying Marine Science and Chemistry. I am very interested in deep-sea hydrothermal vent deposits, and how they affect both benthic creatures and people! In my free time I like to read, go to the gym, and bake. This is my first summer at Boothbay Sea and Science Center and I am excited to work with campers and teach my passion through hands-on experiences!

Hello, my name is Riley Sullivan! I’m currently studying Coastal and Marine Environmental Science at Maine Maritime Academy and will be entering my junior year this fall. With a few years under my belt, I would have to say my favorite aspect of my work has been my focus on Salt Marshes. Specifically, their ecological importance and the benefits they provide through ecosystem services and storm protection. I’m so unbelievably excited for this summer at BSSC! I look forward to exploring new learning paths while adapting to meet the needs of all campers.

Jordan Snell

Jordan Snell is currently studying Life Science at Central Maine Community College in Auburn, Maine. After obtaining her associate’s, she plans on transferring to finish her bachelors in marine science. Jordan grew up in West Gardiner, Maine and currently resides in Sabattus. In her free time she enjoys fishing, kayaking, sitting by the ocean or hiking! Jordan is ecstatic to join BSSC for her second year as an instructor, and can not wait to teach and learn alongside the students!
Caroline Snell

Caroline Snell will be a freshman at Washington University in St. Louis this fall, majoring in engineering. “I am thrilled to be returning to BSSC for my 4th summer as a Sailing Instructor, and can’t wait to continue teaching some past campers and meet new ones!” Caroline was head captain of her high school robotics team and is excited to continue the underwater ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle) program with the campers this summer. In her free time, she enjoys baking, playing with her dog, and listening to music.

Rachelle grew up in Maynard Massachusetts and found herself in Maine to go to college. Now she is a senior at the University of New England, majoring in Marine Science and minoring in education. This is her second summer at BSSC and she looks forward to continuing to inspire the kids creativity through connecting art and science. In her free-time she loves to hike, read, draw, and go to the gym.
Carolyn Parker

Carolyn, an Andover, Massachusetts native, is a rising senior at the University of Vermont where she is majoring in Political Science and minoring in Mathematics. She has grown up spending each summer at her family’s home on Southport Island. From the age of nine, Carolyn began sailing at Southport Yacht Club, eventually becoming a junior and then a senior instructor. When not on the water, she loves reading, photography, theater, going on walks (especially ones where she encounters four-legged friends), and listening to music. She’s excited to return to BSSC for a second year and share her passion for sailing and the ocean.
Jacob (Jake) Allison

Jake is a rising Junior at Maine Maritime Academy dual majoring in Coastal Marine Environmental Science and Small Vessel Operations. This is his second summer as an instructor at BSSC and before that he was a deckhand and first mate on the schooner J&E Riggin. Jake is an aspiring PADI Master Diver and is currently a fully certified Open Water diver. When not on the water, you might find Jake exploring local trails and hunting for good finds at the nearby thrift shops.

My name is Rose Campbell and I am a rising Junior at Boothbay Region High School. I play field hockey in the fall and enjoy competing on the BRHS indoor track team in the winter and outdoor track in the spring. I love being outdoors in the sun on the water and have been a part of the BSSC family since 2017. When I am not on the water in the summer, I can be found biking the trails with my Dad. I am looking forward to all the new adventures that the 2024 summer will be sure to bring!

I am a rising sophomore at Harriton High School, where I run cross country, and compete on the robotics team. Outside of school, I enjoy reading, and casual running. In the summer I spend lots of time on the water, and I have been going to BSSC since I was 5 years old. I am excited for this opportunity to share my sailing experiences, and to encourage kids to enjoy the waterfront this summer.

My name is Owen Foley and I go to East Greenwich High School in Rhode Island. I race 420s on my high school sailing team, and I greatly enjoy sailing in my free time. I also love working with children, so working at BSSC for the past 3 summers has been the perfect combination of teaching and doing something I love. Hi, I am Elijah Smith and I will be a freshman at Lincoln Academy next year. I have lived on the coast of Maine for most of my life and I love studying history, science, and the natural world. I also love water sports whether it be sailing, swimming, kayaking, or paddleboarding. I have gone to BSSC for three years as a camper and have loved my time there. This will be my first year as an apprentice and I am excited to be able to share my love of the ocean and its inhabitants with all the campers!
