Meet our apprentices!

We’re pleased to introduce you to our 2025 apprentices. They will work with other members of the Boothbay Sea and Science Center team to help us provide a safe, fun, friendly and dynamic hands-on learning experience for our students this summer. We’re excited to have them aboard.

George Messner

My name is George Messner. I am 14 years old, and I live in West Hartford, Connecticut. In Maine, I really enjoy fishing, many different waterfront activities, and golf. During the Winter, I play Hockey, and I love art and music. At camp, I look forward to all of the hands-on science projects, sailing, and getting to know the campers.

Avery Thompson

My name is Avery Thompson, I’m a freshman at Middlebury Union High School in Vermont. I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to spend the summer assisting at BSSC as an apprentice instructor! I loved my time as a camper last year and I am looking forward to getting to know this year’s crew of instructors and campers. I spend my winters alpine ski racing, running cross country and playing volleyball here in Vermont. I can’t wait to get back on the water and create wonderful memories with BSSC again this year.

Hunter Snell

Hunter Snell is a rising sophomore at Rye Country Day School in Rye, New York. He has been sailing Optis and 420s in the Boothbay area his whole life, and he is excited to join BSSC as an apprentice this summer. Hunter also loves playing soccer, his dog Maple, and trivia nights at Pier 1 Pizza.

Ciara Rush

Hello! My name is Ciara. I am a rising freshman at Ursuline Academy. I love spending my summers in Boothbay, sailing and being by the water. When I am not by the water I love baking, reading, drawing, listening to music, or playing guitar. I am looking forward to be working at BSSC this summer..

Jaqueline (Jackie) Branch

Jackie is going into the eighth grade at the Center for Teaching and Learning in Edgecomb. She loves sailing and spending time on the water with friends and family. Her other interests include swimming for the local swim team, lobstering, and writing poems about the Maine outdoors. After 8 years as a participant in the Boothbay Sea and Science program, Jackie looks forward to returning this year as an Apprentice.
