Boothbay Sea and Science Center (BSSC) is pleased to announce a generous donation of $5,000 from First National Bank toward rebuilding of our main pier.
The funds will go towards the $278,500 cost of the project, which began last year and will be completed this spring.
“A very big thank you to First National Bank for their generous donation,” said Pauline Dion, President and Executive Director of Boothbay Sea and Science Center. “Community support of this project is critical to its success.” The pier provides critical waterfront access to five of BSSC’s custom floats. Rebuilding it is essential to the continuation of the organization’s sailing and “at sea” marine science program.
“We’re proud to support the Boothbay Sea and Science Center with this project,” said First National Bank’s Business Development Officer, Alyssa Allen. “BSSC’s waterfront programming provides important education and experiences for our youth in the heart of East Boothbay.”
“We would be unable to access our floats without the pier,” said Dion, who noted that the new pier will also increase outdoor classroom space and expand wheelchair accessibility. It will also help BSSC expand its program offerings to the wider Boothbay region community.
The mission of the Boothbay Sea and Science Center is the advancement of sailing, boating and ocean sciences by minimizing economic and physical obstacles and further to develop independence, self-confidence, teamwork and volunteerism in the participants. To inspire individuals to strengthen themselves and their community through the enjoyment of the sea.
BSSC summer and in-school Exploring the Science of Seaweed Farming experiential education programs annually serve more than 1,000 students ages 5 and up .
