From our families
BSSC created a program that inspired her, it became something she looked forward to everyday. BSSC also created a program that was nurturing for students with diverse interest and learning styles.
We loved the fun, educational experience of her being in nature and on the water. The connection with Bigelow is great! It makes for a wonderful place-based, outdoor education (and fun!) right here in East Boothbay.
I liked being with my friends and doing crafts about the ocean.
I chose BSSC because it is one of those programs that my daughter jumps out of bed in the morning to go to. Pauline has a great staff and they engage the children.
I really don’t know how BSSC does it – the breadth and scope of the program is huge even though the actual number of children is small (and quite cozy!). BSSC offers unparalleled exposure to big scientific ideas, challenges on the water, and an amazing series of visiting researchers/scientists/advocates.
I feel confident my children get hands on experience between the touch tank, sailing the boats then the cleaning and maintenance. I believe it keeps different aged children of different learning abilities engaged and learning all day long.
I liked being here and want to come back (next summer). It feels good to be here. I learned a lot of new things like sailing, rowing, and about sea creatures. I went outside my comfort zone and it made me feel good about myself. My personality changed a lot – didn’t really like to talk to people. I feel I’ve opened up. I liked the whole thing.
We did not hesitate to sign our children up for multiple sessions and we are so glad that we did! Our daughters ended each day of camp with big smiles on their faces and stories of their daily adventures.
